Overwhelmed and Spinning? This Simple Visualization Will Help You Regain Clarity
The snow globe
Have you ever felt like your mind is spinning — like thoughts, emotions, and worries are swirling so fast that you can’t think clearly?
If so, you’re not alone. And there’s a powerful little image I want to offer you today:
Picture it for a moment.
A clear, calm globe — until someone shakes it.
Suddenly, everything inside is whirling. The snowflakes don’t know which way is up. It’s beautiful in motion, sure — but also chaotic. Disorienting.
Sound familiar? That’s exactly how our minds feel when we’re overwhelmed.
Now… what happens when you stop shaking the snow globe?
Nothing at first. The swirl continues.
But slowly, gently, the snow begins to settle.
Clarity returns. You can see again.
This metaphor has become one of my favorite ways to describe the importance of pausing when life feels overwhelming. Because often, we try to fix the chaos by doing more, thinking harder, pushing through. But just like shaking the globe, that only makes things cloudier.
💡 What if you didn’t have to do more to feel better?
What if all you had to do was… stop shaking?
You don’t have to “fix” your thoughts. You don’t have to figure it all out right now. You don’t even have to be perfectly still. You just have to give your mind the space to settle.
That’s where the magic happens.
🌀 Here’s how to start letting your snow settle:
Pause. When your thoughts race, pause for even 30 seconds. Place your hand on your heart. Breathe.
Notice. What does your mental snowstorm look like right now? Labeling it (“overwhelm,” “fear,” “too much to do”) helps bring perspective.
Trust. Like the snow in the globe, your thoughts and emotions will settle—if you allow them to.
Set it down. You don’t have to carry the weight of the globe all day. It’s okay to set it gently on the table, walk away, and come back when you feel clearer.
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about permission.
Permission to slow down. To create space between stimulus and response. To stop trying to force clarity and instead allow it to emerge.
If this image speaks to you, I invite you to listen to this week’s episode of the Radiate Health and Wellness Podcast, where I dive deeper into this beautiful metaphor and offer some simple ways to practice “letting the snow settle” in everyday life.
